In Hollywood, and throughout Los Angeles, we have guys who stand on street corners holding giant arrows pointing at a business trying to attract new customers. Many times it is for an apartment complex - "Now Leasing." Some of the guys are really creative and have turned it into an art form similar to the color guard of a drum corps field show. They spin the signs, toss them above their heads, do flips, etc. I wonder how they find these guys and if they are paid extra to learn all those acrobatic stunts?? My gym has a guy holding a big red arrow at a corner on Hollywood Boulevard but he just sits in a folding chair all day and bounces the arrow up and down. I took a picture of of the guy, I think he was bored. I would be too. What a crappy job to hold a sign on a street corner. At least the guys who do the stunts and routines are having fun. What's next in advertising? It seems to get more invasive and innovative every year.
